Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund

The Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund, run by the Museums Association, focuses on time-limited collections work outside the scope of an organisation’s core resources.

Begun as a three year programme in 2011 awarding £800,000 per year, the fund will continue from 2014-16 with £1m per year to award. The fund has been developed from the Esmée Fairbairn Museum and Heritage Collections strand and the MA’s Effective Collections programme.

In 2012 the Museum was granted £64,000 by the Esmée Fairburn Collections Fund to complete the conservation and digitisation of around 300,000 First World War RFC, RNAS and RAF personnel records and enable online and in-gallery public access. These records form the core materials in RAF Museum Storyvault.

The Directors and Trustees of the Museum would like to take this opportunity to thank the Esmee Fairburn Collections Fund for their generous donation without which this project would not be possible.
